FarSounder Launches the CSB Data Explorer Platform in Partnership with The International SeaKeepers Society, the International Hydrographic Organization, and Seabed 2030

FarSounder has released their CSB Data Explorer. This web-based platform enables contributors of CSB (crowdsourced bathymetry) data to easily see where they’ve made contributions and gauge their support of the CSB community. This tool provides a visualization of where your vessel or vessels are making a difference in the daunting task of mapping the world’s oceans.

The CSB Data Explorer is a simple to use dashboard enabling users to view their contributions and monitor statistics highlighting the value of their individual contributions. This not only allows contributors to better understand where and how much they have donated, but it also facilitates the recruitment of other contributors via streamlined functionality to share their stats on social media. Additionally, in an effort to provide additional motivation through gamification, contributors can compare their contributions to the overall FarSounder fleet’s contributions and view the entire International Hydrographic Organization’s (IHO) CSB database on top of a global map.

“FarSounder has been a conduit for our customers to contribute bathymetric data to global mapping initiatives for more than six years. This dashboard was created as a result of our recent expansion of customers' anonymous donations with the latest software’s ability to upload gathered data directly to the cloud,” said Matthew Zimmerman CEO of FarSounder.

The CSB Data Explorer.has been created in partnership with the International SeaKeepers Society, the IHO, and The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project. These organizations all have a high level of commitment to ocean mapping and a continual quest to expand knowledge of the world’s oceans.

Seabed 2030 Project Director, Jamie McMichael-Phillips says: “CSB initiatives bring us significantly closer to our goal of achieving a complete map of the ocean floor, which is beneficial for a whole host of reasons, including empowering the world to make policy decisions, manage the ocean sustainably and undertake scientific research. Every contribution, no matter how small, is invaluable in bringing us one step closer to a fully mapped seabed.”

“SeaKeepers is excited for FarSounder’s introduction of the CSB Data Explorer, a game-changer in the realm of ocean mapping,” said Gill Rodrigues, Director of International Partnerships: ”This platform empowers contributors to see the real-world impact of their data, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose in our quest to understand and protect our oceans. The collaboration with FarSounder, the IHO, and Seabed 2030 exemplifies our commitment to leveraging innovative tools for oceanographic research and conservation."
